I’ve moved this blog to prudenceclaire.blogspot.com.au. I won’t be posting anything new here. Thanks to my Tumblr friends for the motivation and support!

First prawn of whole life. My verdict: doesn’t taste like much, surprisingly rubbery (I always pictured them having a soft creamy texture), generally kind of like whatever.

Clearly I should be writing restaurant reviews for a major newspaper with this kind of prose.

Yesterday afternoon I managed to polish off a bottle of that Woolworths 2-for-1 shopper docket wine and I feel fairly confident in stating that it’s goon repackaged in a bottle.  Oh, the nausea.  At the risk of incriminating myself as a erm, shall we say, problem drinker, normally I can polish off a bottle with no ill effects whatsoever.  ESPECIALLY after a large pasta dinner like I had last night.  I never get hangovers.

However this morning I woke at about 4am feeling SO sick oh sooo sick all I could do was lie on my back and breathe quietly because I felt so acidic and dreadful.  You know that kind of nausea where you can’t even have anything resting on your stomach, not even the sheet?  Yeah.  Like that.

Luckily it passed by about 6am so I didn’t have to waste today.  In fact I’ve had a very virtuous, productive day.  I cleared up the front garden, pulling out dead leaves and plants that were clearly not going to have a rebirth after dying off over summer.  I planted some lavender out the front, rosemary out the back and potted some mint.  I admired the plants in the garden that are flourishing (well, ok, that aren’t dead is probably more accurate - nothing’s actually flourishing after this summer) including the bird of paradise which HAS A FLOWER ON IT.  As usual I feel extremely proud of this effort even though I haven’t actually done anything to the plant except look at it and think “Gee that thing looks thirsty”.  And it rewarded me with a beautiful flower!

Blair and I also started looking for some limestone blocks to build the vegie garden out the back.  Nothing will happen before we leave for the OS trip but it’s nice to have the plan in motion.  We’re on our way to self-sufficiency.  Self-killed meat, here I come!

Speaking of the trip, I made Blair drive me to the shops to get some decent walking shoes for the trip.  Merrells for $80?  Sold!  And look how cute they are with their adorable pink trim.  I couldn’t convince Blair to get any for himself so I am still fearful that he’s going to walk around the world in his beloved “jandals”.  In which case I will be walking ten paces behind him so no one knows that we’re together.

Tonight we’re going to go to the pub for dinner and I’m going to have prawns for the first time.  Yes, first prawn experience at the grand old age of 32.  I had believed (mistakenly, it turns out) that I’m allergic to crustaceans until I saw the allergy specialist last week who confirmed that I’m not, in fact, allergic to crustaceans at all. So that’s a relief.  It means when we go away I don’t have to spend the whole holiday bleating “Does this have prawns in it?”.  We also have plans for yum cha tomorrow with a couple of friends and that too will be a lot more fun not having to worry about a stray prawn in my dumplings.  All that being said, I have to admit I’m not actually sure that I can eat and enjoy prawns after all this time of believing they’d make me sick.  So I guess we’ll find out tonight.  I feel that this is a time when double dinner is not just an indulgence but a necessity.  I have to order a second meal in case I can’t bring myself to eat the prawns!  I’m sure Blair will be right on board with this.

The other day, instead of watching back-to-back episodes of Real Housewives like I normally do from the instant I get home until it’s time for bed, I actually got out my imagination and drew something.  And I’m going to frame it.  And I might draw some more.  I was SCANDALISED to see how much an A3 print goes for on Etsy ($50! Or more!) and I know I can draw just as good as any of those artists.  In case you can’t tell, I’m also quite modest.
So here I am repressing my consumerist tendencies and MAKING SOMETHING MYSELF.  Soon I’ll be sewing my own clothes and harvesting my own food.  And boasting about it on here, obviously.

Snapshot

In the interests of turning this into more of a traditional blog, I thought I’d begin with a snapshot of my life as it is right now.

I’m 32.  Holy shit I’m 32 when did that happen?!  I definitely need to get off Tumblr, I’m old enough to be the parent of most of the people on here.

I’m living with and am engaged to Blair, and we’re getting married this October.  To say that I can’t wait would be an understatement.  We’ve lived together in Perth since April last year, when I moved here from Queensland (and that story is probably a whole other post).  I adore our house and I feel so at home I’ve even started growing herbs.  Growing your own stuff that you’re going to eat is more rewarding than I could ever have imagined.  I feel so accomplished.  Plus I’m a bit of a hippie and dream of living in the country growing our own produce and being self-sufficient.  And yes that includes killing our own meat.  In case you were wondering.

In two weeks (TWO WEEKS!!) we leave for a round the world trip including LA, Vegas, New Orleans, New York, Barcelona, Cinque Terre, Venice, Athens, Santorini, Hong Kong and Koh Samui.  We’ll be away for seven weeks in total.  Again, to say I can’t wait would be an understatement.  I can’t believe we’re really going.  Oh my god oh my god.  Think of all the stamps in my passport!

Well that’s probably all for now.

Back to basics

I changed my blog title from “Prue’s 0 to 5K”, considering that that goal has now been achieved, to plain old prudenceclaire.  Recently I’m becoming more keen on the idea of blogging in the original sense of the word: diary-style entries where I record the goings-on in my life.  Yes, still including running, photos, quotes etc but also more text posts where I just ramble about whatever’s on my mind.

Considering that Tumblr is much more of a photo-blogging site I’m wondering whether to move this back to Blogger, where it began all those years ago.

Hmmm.  Deep issues over here.

Blair told me to take a photo of the chops “flame grilling”. I just think our dinner is on fire #chops #dinner #fire

What, so now we’re putting caveats on people’s motivation to be good? I think the world has a LONG way to go before we can start getting all worked up about why people are good.

Having felt super pumped and invincible completing my first 5K race on Sunday, this week I’m actually struggling to stay motivated.

I don’t know if it’s the lack of carbs (I’m trying to stick to a ketogenic diet) or just general ennui but at the moment I just CAN’T BE BOVVERED. This morning I managed running/walking intervals for about 3km and kept up a decent average pace but my heart wasn’t really in it.

I told myself I was going to attempt a long run on Saturday but at this rate I might just lie on the couch and eat bacon and hot cross buns (and thereby ruin the keto diet). Hurrumph

It’s an overcast and windy Sunday afternoon.  I’m drawing at the dining table while Blair watches war movies.  I’m pretty sure there could be a more peaceful soundtrack to my art than the screaming and machine gun sounds but mostly this is a pretty rad afternoon.
Tonight we’ll have hot cross buns for dinner.  I have no interest in Easter chocolate (am I even a female?) but I am obsessed with hot cross buns and I wish they were available all year.  There’s a packet on the kitchen bench right now making the whole house smell delicious.
